Resumo

A doen�a periodontal cr�nica � uma inflama��o dos tecidos de suporte dos dentes envolvendo ligamento periodontal, cemento e osso alveolar. A terapia periodontal b�sica tem como objetivo principal reduzir a quantidade de periodontopat�genos e estabelecer condi��es locais compat�veis com a sa�de. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a efic�cia da terapia periodontal b�sica composta por raspagem e alisamento coronorradicular em pacientes com periodontite cr�nica realizada numa cl�nica escola de odontologia. M�todo: foi feita uma pesquisa observacional na qual foram inclu�dos 48 prontu�rios de indiv�duos diagnosticados com periodontite cr�nica. Avaliou-se os seguintes par�metros cl�nicos: profundidade de sondagem, posi��o da margem gengival, n�vel de inser��o cl�nica, �ndice de sangramento, �ndice de biofilme OLeary, presen�a de les�es de furca, presen�a de mobilidade dent�ria, diagn�stico inicial e final. Todos estes par�metros foram analisados antes e ap�s a terapia periodontal. Resultados: ap�s a terapia periodontal b�sica, verificou-se melhora significativa nos valores dos par�metros cl�nicos como: profundidade de sondagem (p= 0.0001), n�vel de inser��o cl�nica (p=0.0022), �ndice de sangramento (p= 0.0001) e de biofilme O'Leary (p=0.0001). Entretanto, a m�dia encontrada da posi��o da margem gengival, manteve-se est�vel (p=0.2077). Conclus�o: a terapia periodontal b�sica constitui uma boa conduta cl�nica em pacientes diagnosticados com periodontite cr�nica, por�m fatores individuais relacionados � coopera��o dos pacientes e habilidade manual do operador apresentam uma grande influ�ncia nos resultados dessa terapia.�
