ABSTRACT: Numerous lines of research has associated the use of bisphosphonates (BPs) to various dental treatments. Its use is of great value in preventing bone resorption, as an adjunct to periodontal treatments; the inhibition of root resorption in cases of endodontic teeth that suffered trauma; the maintenance of post-orthodontic treatment tooth position and own osseointegration of dental implants. The rehabilitation of patients with dental implants is becoming an increasingly routine reality in dental offices. Few their contraindications, though the group of patients who make use of bisphosphonates (analogue drugs of endogenous pyrophosphates), may have undesirable adverse reaction called osteonecrosis associated with bisphosphonates (OAB). This paper aims to alert implantodontists of possible late occurrence of osteonecrosis of the jaw associated with bisphosphonates - BRONJ (English bisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw) in implant region already osseointegrated through a case report where a patient developed OAB one year after being rehabilitated.
