Resumo

Introdu��o: A coronectomia � um tratamento cir�rgico onde ocorre a remo��o do terceiro molar de forma parcial, sendo removida a coroa dent�ria apenas, com as ra�zes sendo deixadas dentro do alv�olo. Esse procedimento � empregado com o intuito de reduzir o risco de les�o do nervo alveolar inferior (NAI), quando comparado � exodontia convencional. Objetivo: Revisar a literatura pertinente que abordasse o emprego da t�cnica de coronectomia como alternativa cir�rgica � exodontia. Materiais e M�todos: Revis�o integrativa da literatura produzida atrav�s da sele��o de estudos que abordassem o emprego da coronectomia como alternativa cir�rgica � exodontia. A busca eletr�nica foi realizada na Base de dados MEDLINE (PubMed), atrav�s do cruzamento dos descritores: coronectomy OR intentional partial dentistry OR third molars. A amostra final contava com 20 estudos. Resultados: A coronectomia advoga que, em situa��es cl�nicas cuja raiz do elemento dent�rio est� em �ntimo contato com o NAI e o risco de les�o nervosa � muito elevado, poder� ser suficientemente removida a coroa do respectivo dente, para que a por��o retida fique 3mm abaixo da crista �ssea vestibular e lingual, sepultando a(as) raiz(es). O procedimento tem revelado menores �ndices de complica��es p�s-operat�rias quando comparado � exodontia. O acompanhamento dos pacientes deve ser feito � longo prazo. Conclus�o: A coronectomia tem se revelado um procedimento alternativo no que se refere � redu��o da incid�ncia de complica��es p�s- operat�rias e risco de les�o do NAI.
