A prática de ensino da Prótese Total nos cursos de graduação no Estado do Rio de Janeiro

Abstract: Undergraduate teaching of Complete Dentures is a complex discipline, as it demands high level of scientific and manual skills. Teaching methods may stimulate and thus help young dental students to better understand the treatment of edentulous patients. A research was made with the Rio de Janeiros Dental Schools. The aim was to make a descriptive study about the Complete Dentures teaching methods. With a questionnaire, the Dental Schools answered about the disciplines didactic condition. Eleven of the eighteen invited Schools answered the questionnaire. It was possible to observe a large variety of reference. But, there was a similarity about the theory and laboratorial classes, with a difference only with the starter term. About the clinic, they all begin between the third (fifth and sixth semester) and fourth year (seventh and eighth semester).Two of the Dental Schools has no exclusive Full Dentures clinic. The usage of alternatives teachings methods as manuals, videos and show cases were mentioned by the participants. In the questionnaire, the positive and negative points about the Complete Dentures teaching in each Dental School were asked. Practically, all participants agreeded a need for a increasing of the teaching hours. The participants also answered a clinical case, in what there was a little variation with the results. With this study, it is possible to conclude that the Dental Schools dont follow any teaching parameter. However, it seems to be an objective of all Dental Schools a better quality of teaching.
