Resumo

A terapia fotodin�mica � uma nova alternativa terap�utica n�o invasiva com maior especificidade de s�tios e pat�genos, essa t�cnica combina a energia do laser com um fotossensibilizador para produzir mol�culas de oxig�nio singleto (estado excitado) e radicais livres para destruir os periodonto pat�genos sem produzir danos aos tecidos hospedeiros adjacentes. Esta pesquisa foi um estudo bibliogr�fico, no qual foram selecionados 25 estudos cl�nicos controlados randomizados, no per�odo de 2010 a 2017 para serem analisadas e atender o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho da Terapia fotodin�mica como alternativa de tratamento da doen�a periodontal cr�nica. Os par�metros avaliados foram: �ndice de placa, �ndice de sangramento, profundidade de sondagem, n�vel de inser��o clinico. Os estudos sugerem que a Terapia Fotodin�mica oferece vantagens na modula��o de citocinas. � um tratamento indolor, que apresenta resultados positivos em curto prazo. A desvantagem da terapia fotodin�mica � o custo elevado e o efeito prolongado, que ainda � desconhecido e necessita de mais estudos. � um recurso adicional a ser utilizada no tratamento da periodontite cr�nica junto com a terapia periodontal b�sica convencional. Por�m necessita de estudos a longo prazo para comprovar sua efic�cia.
