Avaliação do perfil dos pacientes com deficiência atendidos na Faculdade de Odontologia da UFRGS

ABSTRACT
This study aims to evaluate the profile of patients with disabilities which were attended in the discipline of Dental Care of Patients with Special Needs from the Department of Dentistry from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). From the dental records of patients treated at the ambulatorial level between 2007 and 2015 were obtained information about the patient's age at first consultation, sex, form of access, origin, continuous use of medication used, past illnesses, responsible for oral hygiene, frequency oral hygiene, use of dental floss, consistency and frequency of sucrose, reason for the first visit and number of visits. Free demand was the main form of access, and largely came from the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul / Brazil. The main responsible for oral hygiene were the parents. Most performs brushing 3x a day and does not flossing. Parents tend to perform oral hygiene (brushing) more times a day compared to when the patient is responsible for the oral hygiene. The sucrose consumption in most cases was 4 times a day and the most frequent form of sucrose intake was the sticky. The most common reasons for the first visit were respectively routine, caries and urgency. The main diseases were: autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and epilepsy. There was a significant association between delayed psychomotor development and epilepsy and between down syndrome and heart disease. Concerning the use of the medications of continuously use the most common were anticonvulsants, antipsychotics and antiepileptics. The relevance of this work is done is because the extreme importance of knowing the background of the condition of patients with disabilities, because only in this way can be offered appropriate treatment, restoring and developing the health and quality of life for them.
